TERRY GOLLEDGE

Story

Hi Friends,

Well as you know i do a challenge each year in memory of Gerry and this year was to be 11 times up the Climb for Cancer as it is the 11th year anniversary of Gerry's passing. Due to Covid it was cancelled so i have done some research and have been accepted for the World's longest stair climb event which is held in Switzerland every June. Photo above.

Next year will be the 12th year and there are 11600 steps up a mountain with an average gradient of 55 degrees. So a very appropriate 12000 ( close) for 12 years and i was born in 1955 so very prophetic! It will be my hardest challenge yet and as i get older it may be the last ever!!!

I am doing the event as i have done all of the challenges purely as my personal monument to an extraordinary woman who taught me the meaning of the words love, courage, strength and humility and to show her she will never be forgotten.

However i have over the past few years of doing these challenges realised there is a responsibility on me to also recognise those who have or are burdened with this disease. The best way to do this is by raising funds for much needed research and for this event next year i have chosen the GI Cancer institute as they are focussed on research and trials that can possibly lead to curing all forms of Gastro cancers such as stomach, pancreatic, colon etc.

In particular though this will be first and foremost for Gerry as if i dont make it i will at least be heading in the right direction of a reunion with her, and also for a very special person called Julian who we lost to pancreatic cancer and showed the same characteristics as Gerry did in great strength, incredible courage, deep humility and a love of everyone around him.

For me both these people will ensure i get to the top as there is no limit on human endeavours when we have a purpose to do something and there is no greater purpose than to show someone you love and admire them.

Meeting people from all walks of life who have suffered or lost someone has given me a much greater insight into life itself and what is most important as we step through our journey.

I hope this can inspire you to give to the cause and to awaken in you the extraordinary person you are.

Lets climb together!!!!!!!

xxx Terry

Thank you!

P.S. I will update you on my training over the next 12 months and i will share some training times and tips so you too can climb for Gerry!!!
